Bill Morrissey and Greg Brown : He Was A Friend Of Mine

Just bought the album of the same name and it is really outstanding – which could have been expected of course, coming from Mrs. Morrissey and Brown. This version of the classic He Was A Friend Of Mine is gorgeous and heartwarming.

For Tex Art Hobart and Michael Roth (who are both alive and well, by the way). You know who you are to me.

Bruce Cockburn : Pacing The Cage

Finally bought Bruce Cockburn’s (read my review of his excellent album Nothing But A Burning Light here)  solo live album Slice O Life and Pacing The Cage is (so far) my favorite song from that album. Here he can be heard at his melodic and lyrical best, it’s a wonderful song. The video (if I am not mistaken) is taken from the documentary film about this tour.

Bill Morrissey : Birches

To celebrate the occasion of ordering my first CD by Bill Morrissey (who I wasn’t aware of until a few weeks ago), his collaboration with Greg Brown titled Friend Of Mine, here’s his track Birches (not on Friend Of Mine).

Robert Earl Keen : Ride

It’s laughable I know, but this is the first time I consciously listen to a Robert Earl Keen song and I haven’t even got one of his albums (yeah, I know).

Don’t care much for the video to this, but there wasn’t a really good sounding version I could find of this on YouTube so I choose this one. It’s a smashing song. And perfect for a day you are fed up with your job…

Eric Bibb : Sittin’ In A Hotel Room

A prime example of all that’s good about Eric Bibb’s work: The graceful, fluid and relaxed guitar and soulful voice coupled with a gorgeous melody (here augmented by a wonderful strings). Best of all, however about this song are the lyrics about an hour early in the day, watching the world rise with lovely weather and him being grateful for another day, showing just what a well-rounded person at peace with himself and the world he seems to be.
