A musical and lyrical marriage made in heaven, two of my favorite singer/songwriters singing a song heavily inspired/partly written by Jack Kerouac who is one of my most-beloved writers.
The original version of Big Sur can be found on the Jack Kerouac tribute CD/DVD project One Fast Move Or I’m Gone (Music From Kerouac’s Big Sur). Not sure if that is even available anymore (it was released in 2009), but it’s got a very special place both in my heart and book/CD/DVD shelf.
Ex-Uncle Tupelo and now Wilco singer/songwriter and guitar player Jeff Tweedy just as I like him best. Solo, acoustic and heartfelt (actually, the same can be said about most artists).
Dawes were previously unknown to mw, but I just listened to their new album of the same name on iTunes. I wasn’t totally convinced, but this song was pretty much the track that captured my attention straight away. Definitely well worth sharing on here, especially in this fine version. Enjoy.

Two rather different, but equally excellent versions of a great, great song.
A long time since I posted anything about Slaid Cleaves, this is another excellent and wonderful song and story, made all the better by the wonderful violin accompaniment.
It’s laughable I know, but this is the first time I consciously listen to a Robert Earl Keen song and I haven’t even got one of his albums (yeah, I know).
Don’t care much for the video to this, but there wasn’t a really good sounding version I could find of this on YouTube so I choose this one. It’s a smashing song. And perfect for a day you are fed up with your job…
Not much to say about this, except that it’s fabulous, especially the lead guitar by John Inmon – I love the sound of that guitar.
