I made this slide show to one of my (many) favorite Uncle Tupelo songs (from Still Feel Gone) a few years back. It’s not prefect by any means but I wanted to capture the feeling of living in small towns (in Texas in this case) and ‘looking for a way out’. Whether or not that is always the right way forward or not I am not too sure about, but I guess a lot of people can relate to that urge, I certainly can or rather could when I was younger.

The Weakerthans : One Great City
An old fave of mine, from the Weakerthans’ album Reconstruction Site, the only album by them I know and own. Never got around to exploring their output more thoroughly although it would most probably be worth it.
Lauren Hoffman : Let The Mystery Be
This is ‘just’ a living room/kitchen home recording, and a splendid one at that. Her voice is excellent, and so’s the song. Written by Greg Brown’s wife Iris Dement, and covered by Brown on his most recent studio album Freak Flag this version sounds entirely different and decidedly non-countryish. I love it a lot.I listend to Lauren Hoffman and her then-band September 67 in the late 1990’s, so it’s been quite a while, but she’s definitely still got a lot of talent and is using it in her current band The Secret Storm.
